The Heritage of Los Reyes Metzontla

Gloria was born in Los Reyes Metzontla, a small community nestled within the Tehuacán–Cuicatlán Biosphere Reserve. Like most families in the village, pottery - barro brunido - has been part of Gloria’s life for as long as she can remember, a tradition inherited from their ancestors dating back to pre-Hispanic times.

It’s a family affair where everyone has their own task. Under Gloria’s careful eye, they continue to create constantly— pieces for their family, and for the community center where every potter is sold.

For Gloria and her generation, craft is both survival and expression — a way to sustain their families and improve their living conditions.
